I was watching Brene Brown’s TED talk on vulnerability today. (Thank you to the 5 Minute Journal for the weekly challenge of watching it!)
One of the many things she mentioned struck a cord with me. She talked about our needs for love and belonging, for knowing that we matter and that we are accepted. She mentioned shame (my thought on this will be another post)
And she mentioned joy and gratitude being very important pieces to being vulnerable and being able to connect with people.
I was reminded of many people in the workshops I’ve done who struggle with completing a joy list – 20 things that bring them joy. They are not alone. Nope, not at all.
Many people think they have joy – yet what they are really doing is chasing it. Somehow over the years the messages from school, family, friends, work, TV, and society in general tell us what is supposed to bring us joy.
Yet, many people are unhappy in one or more areas of their life.
They forget who they really are. What they loved to do as a kid, teenager, even as adults, before the race for the perfect life took over.
Do you know who you are?
Comment below with one thing that brings you joy.
